17th Annual Living Landmarks Celebration

On Wednesday, November 3, 2010, The New York Landmarks Conservancy President, Peg Breen, and Conservancy Board Chair, Stuart Siegel, hosted the 17th Annual Living Landmarks Celebration at The Plaza Hotel at Fifth Avenue, New York City.

This years living landmarks were Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief and restauranteur Graydon Carter; real estate developer and Silverstein Properties owner Larry Silverstein; the noted actor, author, producer, feminist and philanthropist Marlo Thomas and national talk show icon Phil Donahue; Loews Hotels Chairman and CEO Jonathan M. Tisch; acclaimed interior designer Bunny Williams; and Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture Director Howard Dodson who received the Lew Rudin Living Landmark Award for Public Service(biographies attached.)
The event raised just over $800,000, a twenty percent increase from 2009 final tally of $640,000. Landmark Liz Smith co-chaired the event along with Landmark Pete Peterson. Music was provided by Landmark Peter Duchin and his Orchestra. Over 400 guests attended.

The gala kicked off with cocktails at 7:00pm followed by dinner and an awards presentation. As she does every year at this event, Liz Smith commenced the awards ceremony singing a catchy tune inspired by today news and newsmakers. Throughout the evening with her wit and charm Ms. Smith reinforced the importance of preservation, saving the city through the good works of The New York Landmarks Conservancy.

Attendees included: author Fran Lebowitz, Sirio Maccioni, Jeff Zucker, Lesley Stahl, Elizabeth Peabody, Frank Sciame, Louise Grunwald, Joan Ganz Cooney and Pete Peterson, Dr. Mathilde Krim, Joni Evans, Bob Perkins, Aaron Latham, Alexa Hampton, Linda and Sandy Lindenbaum, Marian Heiskell, and Francine du Plessix Gray,
