OVER 200 GUESTS ATTEND UCP OF NYC’s RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR STATE-OF-THE ART HARLEM PROGRAM CENT

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Reception for United Cerebral Palsy of New York City’s newest state-of-the-art habilitative health and educational program Center for individuals with disabilities, was held on October 19th, 2011.

United Cerebral Palsy of New York City (UCP of NYC) welcomed over 200 guests and VIPS on Wednesday evening to celebrate their newest Center in Harlem. Guests toured and interacted with UCP of NYC program participants at the new fully accessible Center before being welcomed by UCP of NYC CEO, Edward R. Matthews. After taking a moment to highlight the various program offerings at the Center, Matthews officially opened the facility with a Ribbon Cutting.

VIPS in attendance were Edward R. Matthews, CEO, UCP of NYC; Jill Flint, star of hit USA show Royal Pains; Dorothy Porter, Community Board 11, Willie Lopez, NYS Dept. of Health & Mental Hygiene, James Doherty, NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), Dr. Maureen Wallace, CUNY Dept. of Health and Human Services, Brandice Henderson, Founder Harlem’s Fashion Row, Marline Martin, LeRoy Neiman Arts Center, Antwan Allen, Principal, St. Marks the Evangelist School, Hans Bernier, Co-Founder Harlem Grown, Lawrence Page, owner, The Pink Teacup restaurant and the new Harlem Auberge Laurent lounge; Javier Gomez, photographer; Camilla Barungi, Supermodel/Entrepreneur/Activist; Jerome Belson, Jerome Belson Associates, Ken Auerbach, Walter & Samuels, Jason Carlough, Mass Mutual, Gary Geresi, UCP of NYC Board President, John Lombardo, Vice President, BNY Mellon; Helene Miller, Children’s Museum of the Arts, Patrick Hazlewood, Entrepeneur.

UCP of NYC offers residents of Upper Manhattan and the Bronx a fully accessible Center that provides learning opportunities including GED Prep, health and wellness classes, continuing education courses, hydroponic farming and a creative arts studio and program for blossoming and established artists. In addition, the Center offers clinical services.

UCP of NYC is fostering partnerships with Community Boards, local organizations and businesses and proudly invites these residents to partake in activities, collaborate on projects, and increase shared volunteerism.

UCP of NYC’s Harlem Facility is located at 251 West 154th Street between Frederick Douglass Boulevard and Macomb Place.
